City Utilities and Services
Affordable utilities and superb services
give
Geneva businesses a clear advantage.
Geneva's primary source of drinking water is Seneca Lake, which contains the highest quality water in
New York State.
The lake’s Class A rating, combined with Geneva’s excellent treatment facilities, results in
the best possible water for City residents. The City’s sewage treatment
facilities are also excellent. The system, which has a 4
million-gallon-per-day capacity, currently treats only 2.5 million gallons
per day. Water rates for industries and residences are the same, as are
sewer rates. Billing occurs four times per year. Contact the City's
Engineering Department for additional
information.
Electric and gas service is provided by
New York State Electric and Gas Corporation
(NYSEG). NYSEG provides generous rate reductions on gas and electricity for
commercial and industrial customers who add new load in
Geneva’s Empire Zone (EZ). The company also provides
various technical services and consultations to all customers.
(800-572-1111).
Telecommunication service is provided by Verizon.
Billing occurs monthly. Besides basic phone service, additional services
provided by Verizon include: additional listing, custom calling,
non-published listing, touch-tone, call waiting, call forwarding, three-way
calling, and speed calling. Paid services such as caller ID, anonymous call
rejection, call return, call trace, per-call restrict, all-call restrict,
and per-call display are available for customers’ needs. Verizon also offers
telecommunications products and services to meet the varying needs of
customers with visual, hearing, speech, and motion disabilities. (890-7100).
The Geneva Fire Department
provides service to
the City with the help of three professional fire companies: Hydrant Hose
Company, C.J. Folger Hook & Ladder Company No. 1, and Nester Hose Company.
The City’s fire protection is excellent, with an ISO class 3 rating. This
high rating allows Geneva
businesses to enjoy substantial savings on fire insurance premiums. The Town
of Geneva
is served by three volunteer fire companies: White Springs Fire Association,
West Lake Road Fire Department, and North Side Fire Department.
An experienced network of law enforcement officials is dedicated to
preserving public safety and welfare in
Geneva.
The Geneva Police Department has jurisdiction
within the City while the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, located in
Canandaigua, serves the surrounding area. New York State Police barracks are
located in Canandaigua and Waterloo.
