GFD to host annual parade July 11

Plans have been
completed for the annual Geneva Firefighters Parade. It will be held
Sat., July 11, stepping off promptly at 7 p.m.
The formation area will be on the
corner of Genesee and Lewis Streets. The parade will proceed down
Genesee St. to Castle St., west on Castle to Main, south on Main to
Seneca St., down Seneca to Exchange and north on Exchange St. to its
conclusion in the Exchange Place Parking Lot. The reviewing stand
will be on Exchange St. near the former Cinema Theater.
This year’s parade is expected to
be one of largest in recent years with 70 units in the line of
march. Among the marching bands in the parade will be the Savannah
Cellar Savers, the Marion Red Caps, the Clyde Saxton Band, the
Fairport Fire Department Marching Band, and the Crystal City Pipe
Band from Corning.
Marching Units from all over the
area including fire departments and military color guards along with
many community groups, including Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, will
also be in line. A new entry this year is the
Red Knights
Motorcycle Club. The Red Knights is made up entirely of
firefighters.
Following the parade the public is invited to come to the Sons of
Italy Lodge on Prospect Ave. for their annual Italian Festival.
Assistant Fire
Chief Kevin Powers is parade chairman aided by Assistant Chiefs
James McCormack and John Wright Jr. and a large committee of
volunteer firefighters. Police Sgt. Eric Heieck will be in charge of
traffic control.
