Information
and Resources
The Marsh Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant helps Geneva by processing our
sewage. The plant removes all of the solid organic material from the sewage
with filters and grinders. Then, the water is treated with helpful
chemicals, like chlorine, to kill any bad bacteria that may be in it.
Finally, the water is pumped back into beautiful Seneca Lake, which is where
Geneva gets it's drinking water.
Now, all of the solids that were in the sewage are transferred to another
part of the plant. There, all harmful elements are removed and the final
result of the processing is a high-grade compost. This environmentally
friendly compost is used in by the Geneva Greenhouse to grow all of the
City's flowers, which can be seen lining our roads and city streets all
Spring and Summer. Compost is a very good fertilizer and does not hurt any
animals or plants.
The Marsh Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant helps Geneva to be in ecological
balance with it's environment. By turning our waste into useful,
environmentally sound compost, and cleaning our water and the water of
Seneca Lake, the City of Geneva lives in harmony with it's beautiful natural
surroundings.
