The Code Enforcement Office is responsible for the local enforcement of the NYS Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code, as well as the City of Geneva's Housing Code, Zoning Ordinance and numerous other local ordinances. The current staff of five full time employees oversees the issuance of building permits and the inspection of construction projects, biennial inspections of all rental properties, investigation and follow up of citizen complaints, applications to the Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals, and any court actions or other enforcement actions necessary to ensure compliance. The office works with the Department of Planning and Economic Development to facilitate and assist applicants through the permitting and review process and to help with grant administration.
