Geneva has a City Manager form of government, consisting of a
Mayor, an eight-member City Council, and a City Manager appointed by the
Council. Six of the eight City Council members represent various wards
in Geneva, while the two remaining Council members are elected at large.
The Mayor and Council members each serve four-year terms.The Mayor and City Council make up the legislative and governing body of the City of Geneva. City Council develops City policies; enacts laws, ordinances and resolutions; and hires the City Manager to serve as Chief Executive Officer for the City. The Mayor and City Councilors are elected by the residents of the City for a 4-year term.
At the County level, Geneva is represented by three County Supervisors. The City is located in New York State Senate District 53, New York State Assembly District 129, and U.S. Congressional District 24.
The Geneva City Council meets on the first Wednesday of each month with an additional meeting scheduled as needed on the third Wednesday of each month. City Council meetings take place at the Public Safety Building, 255 Exchange Street, Geneva at 7:00 p.m.
